Through Covid from Strength to Strength

We talked to Robert Barney about how Fresh Milk Software develops software packages for field service companies and SEO marketing and he had the following to say about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Robert Barney: Very well, thanks. Luckily none of us have actually had the virus.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Fresh Milk Software.

Robert Barney: I founded this company in 2014 after running a property maintenance company where we ended up designing our own software internally to run the company more efficiently. We spotted an opportunity to sell our software to the field services industry.

How does your Fresh Milk Software innovate? 

Robert Barney: Because we still have a company in the field services industry, we are always looking for efficiencies and better ways to do things. Cool new ideas are too many, but resources are few. We are lucky enough to have a software company to code these ideas into the software.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Robert Barney: The pandemic has actually increased our business and allowed us to explore new and innovative ideas for helping field service businesses continue to trade during the lockdowns.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Robert Barney: We were already very well set-up for remote working as most of the development team is in Sri Lanka, where they had a much more restrictive lockdown and a much greater ability to enforce it. Luckily we have not had to make any hard unemployment decisions.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Robert Barney: I exercise and box every day. It is very good for managing stress. I finish at 3 pm every day and collect my children. It puts everything into perspective.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Robert Barney: We have many competitors, large and small, from all over the world. But we are very innovative, and we sell something quite a niche that not every company can do.

Robert Barney: The Covid pandemic has been like anything any of us has seen before and unfortunate for many people. Like any change, it has presented many opportunities that we are in the process of exploiting.
