We talked to Mr. Ruben Sederman, C.E.O at Compass Travel Israel, about online travel guides, and this is what he said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Ruben Sederman: I and my family members are doing perfectly fine. We kept ourselves safe and followed all the instructions the Israeli Government released. Starting from the middle of March 2020, we all woke up to a new reality. This affected our everyday life; I personally made a new evaluation of life priorities. Spending most of the time at home with my 3 amazing children gave me a new perspective and straight how to move forward. And now my company and I are much stronger than it was before.
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Compass Travel Israel.
Ruben Sederman: Starting from 2008, I was working in the hospitality field, starting as a front desk manager and I progressed to be the hotel’s VP. By helping all our guests to explore all the amazing sites Israel has to offer, gave me the inspiration to start my own company. In 2013 Compass Travel Israel Company was established. I named my company Compass because one of my colleagues once said –You are like a Compass to all the guests, you show them the way. For the last past 8 years, we made a long way and become one of the leading Israeli tour operators. My vision and main goal are to provide the best possible service before, during, and after the travel in Israel. I consider my company as an ambassador of Israel, and all our clients are our personal guests and become Compass Travel Israel family members.
How does Compass Travel Israel innovate?
Ruben Sederman: I constantly participate in all possible tech expo meetings in order to provide the best user-friendly experience to our guests, when they browse our website. We developed a unique booking – reservation system, one step reservation system available only with Compass Travel Israel as well as we’ve been one of the first companies to integrate WhatsApp customer service with our website. Collaboration with brilliant minds never stops; I have so many ideas to realize, and the process always in progress.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Ruben Sederman: Starting from March 09, 2020, Israel closed its borders for all international travelers until now. Coronavirus pandemic paralyzed us, brought sales to zero. Luckily, we have so many loyal guests that stayed with us and kept the reservations on hold. The time being paralyzed gave us the opportunity to gain new ideas, update our working model and integrate covid19 safety standards. Now we are ready for the full volume of providing the best possible service to all Compass Travel Israel guests.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Ruben Sederman: All though we need to wear masks, many masks came down during this period of time. Only the loyal ones stayed with Compass Travel Israel. This gave us an opportunity to narrow the Compass Travel Israel family. We all learned valuable lessons and saw how it truly belongs to the Compass Travel Israel family.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Ruben Sederman: I do not think of any colleague as a competitor. Behind each company, there is a person standing with his own vision. People’s visions are never the same. I prefer to collaborate with my colleagues and be in good relations with them. Eventually, we are all in the same boat. As for staying in the game, we build new tours and tour package, new itineraries, offering a unique experience in Israel, like no other. We’ll be big time in the game.
Your final thoughts?
Ruben Sederman: Everything happens for a reason. I strongly believe it was a test for all of us. Only the strong and purposeful ones will keep standing.
