Ryan W Blue Ocean Lighting

We talked to Ryan W about how Blue Ocean Lighting is a leading LED lighting solutions provider, and this is what he had to say.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Ryan W: We are doing good. Taking precaution, being responsible, and following government rules.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Blue Ocean Lighting?

Ryan W: I am the founder of Blue Ocean Lighting, a member of the 2018 Vancouver Mayoral election Committee, and multiple awards winner. I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, a realtor license, a mortgage broker license, a private equity investment manager license, a Harvard professional development certificate, MIT xPRO certificate, etc.

I found the company in 2014; everything started from my last year’s university project, which was about sustainable energy. My goal is to protect the environment by saving energy. Elon Musk is the person I look up to, not everyone can do things as he does, but we can all start from somewhere we can. Also, refer to the company intro.

How does Blue Ocean Lighting innovate?

Ryan W: My company Blue Ocean Lighting is a small Canadian boutique LED lighting manufacturer. It serves over 300 electrical chain wholesalers across Canada, and BOL products have been used in many facilities in Canada. We reduced at least 60% of all these projects’ power consumption.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Ryan W: Our revenue dropped off 50%, and we have laid off half of our employees.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Ryan W: Yes. I made many difficult choices since I found the company. The lessons I learned is keeping good people around you and kick the bad people out of your team and your circle.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Ryan W: The reason why people have stress and anxiety is because of the crisis.

Seeing the crisis as an opportunity and then finding a solution for it. Sometimes, Drink some wine it helps a lot.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Ryan W: Blue Ocean Lighting is positioned at a niche market sector of Canada’s LED lighting industry. I don’t think we have a competitor in Canada. Also, I never treat anyone as competitors; I treat others as teachers.

Your final thoughts?

Ryan W: I hope everyone raises more attention to our environment globally, especially the COVID-19 is a very tough lesson for us.
