We talked to Satya Pradhan on how selling online is made easy, trendy, and profitable with the ShopConnect platform and here is what he said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID19 times?
Satya Pradhan: We at Shopconnect have adapted to function in the new normal. At the start of the pandemic, we created a Citizen E-pass movement tracker for free use by the police and authorities. Epass made it convenient for the citizens to apply and receive the pass and for the authorities to verify and curb the unnecessary movement of people.
After that, we saw retailers and brands struggling to connect to customers and sell due to the restrictions and lockdowns. We created a Live Video Selling platform Shopconnect for this. We have both b2b for brands and wholesalers and b2c versions for retailers or D2C brands, enabling Interactive, collaboration and O2O with virtual showrooms etc., in the retail industry.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Shopconnect.
Satya Pradhan: Dilli Babu founded nVipani in June 2015 with the vision to enable Business Excellence, Automation, Transparency and Smartness for small, medium, and large enterprises through innovative solutions using cutting edge technologies. He wants to empower unorganized sectors and individuals to make a big difference to communities and society at large as an entrepreneur. His entrepreneurial vision is to build an environment where future entrepreneurs can thrive. Dilli has 19 years of rich experience in product development and IT services in various domains, including Telecom, Security, and Supply Chain Management. He co-founded Athena Security Inc, which was acquired by Solarwinds Inc (NYSE: SWI) in 2012.
I partnered with Dilli as Director and taking care of Marketing and Sales for Shopconnect. I founded two startups before in retail and technology domains. Working with Shopconnect has been a rewarding experience as we have a very diverse team spread around the globe. Working and collaborating to get this off the ground, especially during this pandemic, has been one of the most interesting and challenging assignments I have had to date.
How does Shopconnect innovate?
Satya Pradhan: We have a highly experienced team with over 100 years of combined experience in diverse fields. We are constantly researching and identifying trends in the market, developing solutions to solve new and upcoming problems, and using AI/ML, AR/VR, microservices, and other latest technologies. How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Satya Pradhan: We have mitigated initial challenges and come out strong. We have a strong team that is performing and adapted well to remote working and delivering.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Satya Pradhan: We had to pivot from focusing only on supply chain solutions to more connected, collaborative, interactive solutions, which was the need of the hour. Our experience and learnings while building the connected SCM solution has helped us create a more robust solution for Shopconnect, which makes us stand apart from our competitors.
How do you project yourself and Shopconnect in the future?
Satya Pradhan: Shopconnect is in a unique position to be a game-changer in the retail landscape. The rise of video as a medium to become almost 80% of all internet traffic tells you that people interact with videos. All stakeholders are incorporating a video strategy, whether it is for marketing, sales, service, training etc. We are in the midst of this trend with a product that is already helping brands and retailers sell with the touch of personalization in these times. We have a robust product road map ahead for the next three years and are well-positioned to be one of the leading players in the Live video selling market.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Satya Pradhan: We have very few competitors, based mostly in the UK, US and Europe. We don’t consider video conferencing/chat platforms as competition as there is a lot of difference in what we are doing rather than a simple video chat. Looking at the trends of live video selling apps in PRC, which are cornering a large market share of the entire e-commerce markets, it is prudent that we are in the game and we are a strong player. We are already in talks with some VCs to help us in the journey ahead with the right resources.
