We spoke to Seref Cankaya, founder of Hosthink about running dedicated servers in multi-tier backbone data centres and this is what he said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Seref Cankaya: Thanks for asking. My family and I are staying safe and healthy. I think that’s the most important thing these days. Like all other people, we are dreaming about the possibility of traveling and living a normal life.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Hosthink.
Seref Cankaya: From a very young age, I was curious about the web and web operations. I started coding game scripts when I was 13. After some time, I turned to web coding. It was good, but no one offers what I need. So, I decided to do it myself and offer services to people like me; cover up their needs with new aspects. I founded the company in 2010 when I was 21 and in college.
How does Hosthink innovate?
Seref Cankaya: As we are a part of the tech industry, we always have to go forward and catch up with the recent innovations and changes in the industry. That’s why we keep expanding our network to cover up the client needs.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business and how are you coping?
Seref Cankaya: After the coronavirus pandemic, all Hosthink staff -except the field operation team- started working from their homes. In those times, availability and being online is everything. If any hardware fails, it affects lots of people and companies.
So, operations need to be run smoothly and that’s why they are still on the field to respond to hardware reasoned problems. Routers, dedicated servers, cloud systems, and storage units are very important and our team is always on duty to keep up the availability.
On the other hand, internet usage is highly increased. For this reason, we’ve increased our bandwidth capacities on all of our PoP’s.
Did you have to make difficult choices and what are the lessons learned?
Seref Cankaya: I think every company saw that even if you are in tech business or not; you have to be ready for the remote work and your infrastructure needs to be ready for that. All Hosthink systems are already remote-friendly and we are running all operations without any problem.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
Seref Cankaya: We use our own CRM and every colleague knows how to do their best.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Seref Cankaya: Every dedicated server, cloud server, VPS, data center services companies are our competitors. If we keep up providing real 24/7 technical support, a 99.99 uptime rate, competitive prices and keep expanding our network; no one can push us out of the game.

Seref Cankaya: We all passing through challenging times. Most people have time to improve their abilities and discover themselves. We have to use that time efficiently and prepare ourselves to after-covid for a better world, better us.
