Tell us a few words about the founders and how the idea came :
The Magunga Team: Magunga Williams – Business Developer; Marketer & Blogger; Arunga Abigail – Author, Editor & Writer; Mabiria David – Web & Mobile Developer, Troy Onyango – Books Scout.
How the idea came about: One of us (Abigail Arunga, wrote and self-published a poetry book in 2014/2015. She tried getting it to be placed on the Brick & Mortar bookshops in the City of Nairobi but only ended up having one Bookshop accepting to display her book. Most of them said her poetry book was too small to be placed on their bookshops. After doing a small inquiry from among authors in Kenya, we came to understand that they had issues in distributing their books. That’s when, Abigail’s boyfriend (Magunga Williams) thought why not try selling it online and see how it goes. Last year 2015 (Mabiria David) built a simple platform to test out the concept and it proofed a success and we decided to launch a full platform to market African Literature.
