We talked to Tom Nguyen of Mr. Technique about its digital marketing services and COVID-19.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Tom Nguyen: My wife and I are doing fine. We do wish we could travel more.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Mr. Technique

Tom Nguyen: I worked as a salesman for a web development company in Atlanta, but I really liked web design and development, so I started learning about it. In 2007, I started Mr. Technique, Inc.

How does Mr. Technique innovate?

Tom Nguyen: I chat with my web developer and my graphic designer regularly on how we can do tasks better and faster. For instance, if we are doing website maintenance for a client, the client will receive an automatic email every time they receive a contact form inquiry. I used to check client form inquiries manually, but automation software can do this faster and more accurately.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping? 

Tom Nguyen: Business has dropped slightly, but I feel we are quite lucky to receive inquiries regularly.

What does Mr. Technique specialize in? 

Tom Nguyen: Web Design and SEO make up most of our business. We also offer web hosting with 24/7 online support. For a select few clients, we manage Google GSuite accounts.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned? 

Tom Nguyen: Every now and then, a client may stop doing business with us. My goal is to make sure that they have access to their website and accounts. I don’t like to hold client material “hostage” if they decide to leave. The positive side of a client leaving is that our client offboarding process is refined each time that happens.

Where do you see Mr. Technique in the future? 

Tom Nguyen: I’m looking to help businesses throughout the United States as opposed to just the Atlanta area. This year, I’ve started accepting business from clients located anywhere in the United States. I did this because the COVID-19 pandemic eliminated the face-to-face meetings with local clients.
