Tell us a few words about the founders and how the idea came
TravelMap was founded in January 2014 by Clément Mas. He built the platform out of the need to quickly show the trips on a map and also seamlessly integrate media and journal.
TravelMap has been growing rapidly as a startup. It is now used by more than 30 000 travellers from all around the world.
The mission is to inspire people to get out of their comfort zone to travel more in a sustainable and meaningful way.
Your success factors / Your factors differentiating and disruptive compared to the existing
I first thought about TravelMap in 2012, when I was about to finish my IT studies, and start travelling for an undetermined amount of time.
I wanted to find an easy way to let my family and friends know where I was and how I was doing.
At the time there were a few travel blog platforms, but they were not that appealing and none of them focused on a map. They were based on text and I don’t like writing that much – especially while travelling. I just wanted to be able to press a button to save my position and go on. So I went ahead and built my own travel blog.
The concept worked out well. It was really easy for me to manage and even easier for my family and friends to follow my adventures.
So on the 1st of January, 2014, I released the first public version of TravelMap so other travellers can also use it for their trips.

The competitors (other travel blogging platforms) are trying to integrate maps into their products but it’s not as central as the map is on the TravelMap blogs.
