We talked to Vahe Taamazyan of Sizolution about developing tech-based products for human body 3D scanning and AI personalization tools for fashion e-commerce, and the following is what he had to say:-
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Vahe Taamazyan: All is well, thanks!
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Sizolution.
Vahe Taamazyan: My background is in Applied Physics and Mathematics and did research on 3D scanning and Computer Vision at Skoltech and MIT. I co-founded the company 5 years ago together with Stanislav Podshivalov and Mikhail Matrosov. From that moment, we’ve been focused on developing tech-based products for human body 3D scanning and AI personalization tools for fashion e-commerce.
How does Sizolution innovate?
Vahe Taamazyan: We develop products based on top-notch algorithms and AI approaches to help customers shop fashion online and help stores reduce returns. This is a very complicated problem that requires a lot of data, smart approaches to work with that data.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Vahe Taamazyan: The fashion market was not among the winners during the lockdown; however, e-commerce will be a winner in the long-term, and now it’s more clear than ever. So, although there might be some short-term difficulties, we see a quickly growing interest in what we do. Also, the pandemic accelerated the overall disruption of fashion industry value chain and processes, and we’ll play a direct role in that as well.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Vahe Taamazyan: The life in a startup always consists of many difficult choices even without pandemic, so I can’t say that life changed significantly. However, one thing we realized was that we have additional reserves to test more ideas and hypotheses and speeded up that process internally. And this mindset is something we are going to keep with us after the pandemic as well.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety? How do you project yourself and Sizolution in the future?
Vahe Taamazyan: I just try to sleep more and always be conscious of what is.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Vahe Taamazyan: There is a number of companies on the market focused on solving the same problem; none of them is really solving it to the fullest. So trying to solve it while also being relevant to our new and coming customers is our way to compete.
