Vasily Malyshev Messapps

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Vasily Malyshev: We are doing great, actually. I recently got married.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Messapps.

Vasily Malyshev: Well, Messapps, like many other startups, was fueled by the problem which I had back in the days. In 2010, I couldn’t find time to prepare for the LSAT. I had an internship in one city and evening classes in another. So the only free time I had was on the NY subway, but the exam books were too big and heavy to bring them everywhere. However, thanks to the heavyweight of these books, a good idea came to my mind. So I hired a few people, and we developed an app to have the LSAT study materials on the phone. It was the first that kind of app, and it became a bestseller on AppStore. Later than, I moved on to building more educational apps.

Over time more and more people around started asking me how they can create an app, what they need to know, how to make it successful. This led to creating Messapps.

How does Messapps innovate?

Vasily Malyshev: Nowadays, technologies are developing very rapidly, and, especially in our industry, it is very important to keep up with the times. In our company, constant education is a very important part of the process. This allows us to offer our clients the most relevant and innovative solutions.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Vasily Malyshev: Well, we didn’t feel a significant impact of the coronavirus in our industry. However, a couple of our startup-clients began to have difficulties financing their projects.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Vasily Malyshev: Well, as a majority of companies all over the world, we had to transfer our office to remote work mode. But I must say it’s not a bad experience. I think that the future belongs to remote work. It’s very convenient when you may work from the place you like and whenever you like.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety, how do you project yourself and Messapps in the future?

Vasily Malyshev: I may say that I am a kind of an optimist. First of all, I try not to focus on pessimistic thoughts. What really helps to go through such hard times is hard work. While the whole world is on pause, it’s a great opportunity to do something amazing.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Vasily Malyshev: We have a few big competitors and thousands of smaller firms on the market. Our plan is to deliver quality service to our clients, build outstanding innovative software, and, as always, permanent growth.
