GuideDoc: Best Documentary Films

Victor Correal of GuideDoc tells us about a global curated documentary streaming platform that produces amazing documentaries with great stories.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Victor Correal: You could say that I was an early adopter of Covid-19. I passed it last March. With a bit of fear, because at that time, there was still very little information. Luckily, nothing serious happened. Besides, as far as I can tell, in our family, we have been lucky enough to cope quite well during these months of the pandemic.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded GuideDoc.
Victor Correal: I am a journalist, and have worked all my life in the media and with my production company I have produced radio and television programs. In 2013 I also produced a documentary movie that received an excellent international reception. During that time, traveling around the world from festival to festival, I realized something that you probably already know: Every year, the filmmakers from this planet produce a lot of precious cinematographic jewels, amazing documentaries with great stories that will never reach their final audience. The reason for this is that in the documentary world, there’s a major distribution problem. And this is exactly what GuideDoc is trying to solve.
How does GuideDoc innovate?
Victor Correal: We are a documentary film platform (surely one of the best). We bring the best films awarded in the best festivals in the world to the fans of this genre. In addition, we love technology, and that’s why we try to make our apps super cool. For us, it is an important task, but I don’t know if I would dare to say “innovate.”
How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?
Victor Correal: For obvious reasons, we tripled our users during the pandemic. We are already at similar numbers to the previous ones.
Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?
Victor Correal: Fortunately, no. But at GuideDoc, we have been a completely remote team from day one, spread all over the world. That gives us incredible flexibility when unexpected things happen.
How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?
Victor Correal: We have always transparently treated our users and are very honest with them. We have always done well.
Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?
Victor Correal: We have never received any assistance of any kind. Better to reserve these things for important cases. We are just a documentary film platform, nothing important.
