INNOVATORS VS COVID 19
India Based Music Label FADN Records to Work on Full Potential in 2021

We talked to Vikash Jajra, Label Manager and Adwaith S, founder at FADN Records about helping artists grow and this is what they said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Vikash Jajra: I, personally and everyone else at FADN, is doing fine. Luckily, we all are physically safe from the massive pandemic which has taken over this world this year, but mentally we are certainly affected by it. It has affected our workflow and work capacity even when most of our work is online, and the nature of the service we provide is not dependent on old-school physical meetings. Overall, we’re doing okay, and we hope the new year will bring relief and good news for everyone.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded FADN Records.
Adwaith S: We created this label to help artists grow and provide them with the services they require. Vikash Jajgra is an artist & Label manager at FADN Records, and I am an entrepreneur and CEO of FADN Records.
How does FADN Records innovate?
Vikash Jajra: We constantly work on improving our service to artists signed on FADN as well as the artists who interact with our label in various ways. We are working with well-known names like AWAL from Kobalt Music and Hungama to keep our distribution smooth and punctual. We believe in keeping the numbers of mediators as low as possible to ensure the high-quality music that artists have provided to us reaches as it is to the platforms. We have expanded our reach to over a hundred DSPs to make sure our artists can be discovered more frequently on every device and platform.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Adwaith S: Like every small business that has just started, we also had issues when the pandemic hit the world. All our partners had to work with half the staff, so the schedules have gone indefinite. Some of us used to work at places so that we could keep ourselves financially stable while working on FADN. The pandemic affected that and thus indirectly, it had affected our work at the label. Talking about coping with it, we all had been trying our best to keep our service as it was even in these hard times, and we’ve been almost there in doing so.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Vikash Jajra: Certainly, we have to make difficult choices often to keep the experience at balance for both the artists and the audience who trusts FADN for their musical taste. With every demo received, we receive the challenge to make the right choice of selecting music to release under FADN’s name or saying no. Artists work hard to create those tracks, and it could be really difficult for them to take another rejection and we always have to keep in mind to give out constructive feedback to the artists with the points we thought about when making such a decision of not releasing the track. So, I’d say every business has it’s moments when one has to make difficult choices to keep it on the right path.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Adwaith S: Well, each one of us has our own unique ways to deal with stress, but personally speaking, I keep my lifestyle well balanced and scheduled with keeping sufficient hours for sleep. I believe a healthy body can handle stressful situations more efficiently than one lacking sleep and schedule. So 10 hours of sleep and some good lifestyle changes help me deal with the stress. Coming on to anxiety, though, it’s not a really big issue considering the nature of the service we provide.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Vikash Jajra: To be honest, we don’t look at it as being a competition but more of a journey that we go on together. We keep an eye on what other labels are doing, what is working and what is not working, etc. so that we can always adapt and decide the things we should do or don’t do for a healthy relationship with our artists as well as the audience. We keep working constantly to expand our reach, to distribute our releases as direct as possible to the platforms.
We are looking forward to making some tools for our artists to manage their profile on FADN, all their releases and demos. Also, we keep working on our online presence, and we make sure that we give out enough content on all the social media platforms.
Your final thoughts?
Adwaith S: Happy new year and may the forthcoming year bring us loads of opportunities to grow and extend our reach towards our goals. Thanks to you guys for having us in this conversation and giving us this opportunity and platform to talk about ourselves.
