We talked to Yeliz Obergfell on how entrepreneurs at all levels use SkillFront to execute ideas, grow businesses, and dominate their markets online and offline.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Yeliz Obergfell: Thank you for asking this. Thankfully my family, friends, and I have been doing so far so good.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded SkillFront?
Yeliz Obergfell: SkillFront is a skilled platform for entrepreneurs. I started the idea of SkillFront in 2011 with zero knowledge of marketing, sales, persuasion, closing, e-commerce, or automated digital marketing systems.
On top of that, I had never delivered a service that was 100 percent created by me, and I had spent most of my career selling other services.
From 2011 to 2014, I struggled to get the message I felt in my heart and soul out to the world. Although we were having some mild success, I was paralyzed by trying to figure out the psychology of being a female leader with my message, science and technology to sustain and scale my business.
I have always been an avid learner, but before I decided to learn everything I could about how I can succeed as an entrepreneur, most of what I read was fiction. If there is one thing I am good at, it’s taking in a vast amount of information and distills it into essentials. I am a synthesist by nature, and my travels through the business literature quickly became an exercise in separating the diamonds from the rough.
The more I learned, the more helpless I felt. For every great resource I found, I had to process ten other resources to figure out how to apply that resource in practice to excel on my entrepreneurship journey.
I started to wonder: how much of what’s out there —and there is a lot out there— I needed to know. How could I separate practical business and entrepreneurship skills from the dry theory and technobabble? I only had so much time and energy, so I started searching for a filter: something that would direct me to the useful skills and keep me away from the chaff. The more I searched, the more I realized it didn’t exist — so I decided to create the SkillFront.
How does SkillFront innovate?
Yeliz Obergfell: Entrepreneurs at all levels -from want-to-be entrepreneurs to owners of large enterprises- use SkillFront to execute ideas, grow businesses, and dominate their markets online and offline.
At this moment, 143,487 SkillFront Entrepreneurs are actively using the SkillFront Platform to quickly get their ideas, products, and services out to the world!
We have a very competent team to deliver any course and certification program in as little as a week and serve our clients. Furthermore, SkillFront is the only training platform that offers personalized sharable and verifiable digital badges. Names of our students are engraved on those badges, so those badges are custom made for our students.
I don’t share that with you to impress you. To some of you hearing this, that is a big thing, and it’s nothing to others. I share it to demonstrate what is possible when you learn, live, and leverage the practical science and art of being an entrepreneur while combining those skills with lessons you will earn in real practice.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Yeliz Obergfell: Regardless of the ongoing pandemic, before and after it, what we have been observing is that: Businesses don’t fail because they’re out of money, but they’re out of value in their clients’ eyes, which generates money for them. Your income will be merely the byproduct of the value your business generates for your audience.
The more the value you generate, the more the income you’re going to deserve and earn. Without any exceptions, all businesses are a combination of five interdependent processes: Value Creation, Marketing, Sales, Delivery, and Finance.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Yeliz Obergfell: My most challenging choice was back in 2011. I told myself. Yeliz Obergfell, you’re the best, and you have always done the best, and you will again do the best. I wanted to set myself free after getting laid off. I had no clue that what would start with a decision to change my life would transform into a global movement thanks to the principles, frameworks, and support of SkillFront, the Skill Platform for Entrepreneurs.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety? How do you project yourself and SkillFront in the future?
Yeliz Obergfell: If you’re hungry enough, if you want it bad enough, you will have the drive to play the whole game. Like everything you want to excel at in life, you need to make some sacrifices to make dreams come true. Know what you want, where you are going, and have a plan of action to succeed.
The ones who have been publicly perceived as successful entrepreneurs unexceptionally believe that most people don’t realize the sacrifices that entrepreneurs have to make.
Not only putting in the crazy hours but after spending all the time and money, there is no guarantee that you will be rewarded for it. It doesn’t matter if you worked 80 hours a week for a year or two. You can still fail, and nobody is going to pay you for your effort.
We all have entrepreneurial scars. And if you don’t have them yet, you’re going to get them, but don’t let those keep you from your next success!
You have to be willing to embrace them and share the failures and mistakes you’ve made with others. That’s the only way you’ll be able to learn from them, move on, and grow in the process.
As I share my entrepreneurial scars, I found that it draws people closer, so I hope this skill helps you relieve some of that pressure you may have on you. Because if you don’t keep risking, trying, and keep getting those scars, where is the world going to be? Where are you going to be? Where are the people you’re serving going to be? They need you, and it’s worth the risk, worth the sacrifice, worth your efforts.
Then it’s time for all of us to go back to work now and enjoy the journey of serving our valuable clients. Without them, we’re out of business.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Yeliz Obergfell: We know that it’s a very complex, overwhelming, and overcrowded world with all entrepreneur training programs and courses out there in the market.
And yet, we managed to build our entrepreneurship training and certification programs more concrete, attractive, helpful, useful, and more straightforward than our competitors did.
That is why we believe our valuable students choose SkillFront over the bureaucratic, complicated, expensive, and half-baked solutions of our competitors.
