First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Zain Dhareeja: My family and I are coping well during these times as the pandemic has enabled us to spend more time together, especially during national lockdowns.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Spacemize.
Zain Dhareeja: I founded Spacemize in 2019 with the vision to change the way we work by allowing people to access convenient, productive spaces for a fraction of the cost of traditional office space.
How does Spacemize innovate?
Zain Dhareeja: We enable corporate employees and entrepreneurs to work better remotely across a network of over 100 hotel spaces across the UK and US. for only 19.99/month. We offer a third space between the home and office, where our members can reserve a clean, quiet space from which to work and meet, together with access to numerous perks including up to 25% discount on all & drink, free parking, and discounts on meeting rooms and hotel rooms.
How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?
Zain Dhareeja: The coronavirus pandemic has helped fuel demand for our services, given that corporates are downsizing on unnecessary office space and employees are unable to work productively from home. We expect a surge in demand in the coming months, especially when government lockdown restrictions begin to lift.
Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?
Zain Dhareeja: No, fortunately, we haven’t had to make any key changes to HR as the pandemic has actually increased demand for our services as workers want to get out of home and start collaborating with colleagues and want to meet clients in person. Due to such demand, we are growing out.
How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?
Zain Dhareeja: We are always innovating and coming up with new strategies to keep our members engaged. Social media has been an effective tool to keep us close to our member base.
Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?
Zain Dhareeja: No, but I believe our partner hotels have. We hope the government can continue supporting the hospitality sector during these times.
