Budget Smartphones to Consider in 2024

The cost of living crisis is impacting everyone in one way or another and one way in which millions of people can cut costs is through their choice of mobile phones. Some of the ‘best’ mobile phones on the market today cost upwards of £700 which, quite frankly, is just obscene.

Today, we’ll be looking at the very best budget options in the mobile phone market in 2024 for those people out there who aren’t overly fussed about superficial gadgets and gimmicks or the biggest brand names. All phones listed in this article are priced at £250 or under.

Budget Smartphones to Consider in 2024

Budget Smartphones to Consider in 2024: Seven picks

Samsung Galaxy A54

The Samsung Galaxy A54 offers a robust battery that will last you all day, an impressive camera given the price and a design that looks more premium than its price point suggests. This phone has a resemblance to the much more expensive Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus but is slightly weightier which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The phone is priced at around £233, which is fantastic value when you consider it comes with Samsung’s four years of software updates. This means it will last you for a good while before a replacement is needed.

Nokia XR20 5G

Nokia haven’t really be in the smartphone game since they led the way in the early 2000s. However, that doesn’t mean to say they aren’t still worth a look. The Nokia XR20 5G is a fantastic budget phone that is priced at around £238 and is marketed as a rugged smartphone which means it will be safe from damage.

The XR20 5G has an 8mp camera which is decent enough considering its price while the device comes with a guarantee of four years of security updates meaning it is a robust phone and time-proof phone that will do everything you need.

The Samsung Galaxy A14

The second Samsung Galaxy phone on this list is the Samsung Galaxy A14. It is priced at around £150 which is a phenomenal price when you consider its spec. The A14 boasts a triple camera system that features a remarkable 50MP main camera and a 13MP front camera.

This product is powered by an octa-core processor which should mean good performance while the design is sleek and modern.

Alcatel 1

You may not have ever heard of Alcatel before but it might be time to learn more about them as they are currently offering a smartphone for £40. For that price, don’t expect the world but if you are happy enough with a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera (both with LED flash) then this phone will more than likely suit your needs.

Oppo A78 5G

Like Alcatel, Oppo aren’t exactly household names in the mobile phone industry but the Oppo A78 5G is a budget option that stands out from the crowd. The coolest thing about this phone is its sleek and lightweight design which comes in three unique colours.

In addition to the cool design options, the Oppo A78 5G comes with a 50MP main camera so you won’t have to compromise picture quality for price. The average cost of this phone is currently at the £199 mark but it will likely reduce further as the year progresses.

Motorola g13

Motorola were famed in the 2000s for their Razr mobile phones but they have since made way for iPhones and Samsungs at the top of the tree. They now target budget options and the g13 is our pick as their best budget offering for 2024.

It possesses a 6.5-inch 6.5-inch 90Hz and runs on the Android 13 system. The rear camera is an impressive 50MP, especially when you consider the price of the phone is under £100.

Doro 8100

The Doro 8100 is another budget smartphone that you likely have never heard of before it’s worth considering if you want a cheap mobile phone in 2024. This product is perhaps marketed at the elderly as it possesses an emergency assistance button, hearing aid compatibility and a very simple interface.

Despite the simplicity of this phone, it does still have Google Assistant and the Google Play Store for those who want more from the phone. It also possesses a 6-inch touchscreen and a triple rear camera system.
