Dr. Henry Cabrera and Lavender Waves Farm Offer Unique Experiences for Visitors to Rhode Island
If you’ve ever been to Rhode Island, you know that the smallest US state is known for its rich Colonial history, sprawling mansions, picturesque seaside cliffs, favorite pastime of sailing, and delicious seafood. But nestled in its barely more than 1200 square miles, Rhode Island offers some truly unique experiences that can’t be found elsewhere in New England. Lavender Waves Farm falls into this category.
In the beautiful coastal town of South Kingston, Lavender Waves Farm is a breathtaking haven to reset the mind and the body, with a wide variety of unusual and charming offerings. Owner Dr. Henry Cabrera has invested heavily to transform what was once a pig and cow farm, into a fragrant and elegant oasis just a few miles from Rhode Island’s scenic southern coast.
Since purchasing the farm in late 2016, Dr. Cabrera has taken his passion for the unique and the luxurious to new heights, creating an immersive and creative sanctuary. More than 2,500 visitors have enjoyed Lavender Waves Farmeach year since opening to the public in 2020.
There is much more to the farm than the lavender, although the 4,000 lavender plants radiating from the custom-built gazebo certainly make for a stunning centerpiece. From animals to yoga to an Airbnb, Lavender Waves Farm has something for everyone on its 14 acres.
Membership Has Its Benefits
There are general admission days and cut-your-own lavender events scheduled during peak bloom, from June until August, and a second, lighter bloom that persists until October. But for true lavender aficionados, several levels of membership are available for purchase, ranging from Edelweiss to Phenomenal.
Memberships include bundles of dried lavender, admissions to cut-your-own-lavender events, and private access to the farm, with the option to add on visits with the animals. Spending time in the bucolic setting so thoughtfully designed by Dr. Cabrera is a true delight to the senses, especially for those passionate about the perennial.
Experiences
The farm is often open for general admission, but carefully curated events only serve to enhance the guest experience. Beyond cut-your-own-lavender days, Lavender Waves Farm often hosts yoga in the lavender and private farm tours. Craft workshops are offered, and photoshoots can be scheduled; but in true Dr. Cabrera form, there is always the option for something truly stunning.
Luxurious Lavender Picnics can be booked in 3 distinct and tasteful designs. The Tiffany Picnic, French Country Picnic, and Classic Picnic provide the perfect, comfortable setting to enjoy lunch or dinner. Guests can provide their own picnic fare, or choose from the local sandwich shops that Lavender Waves Farm has partnered with.
Farm Suite Airbnb
For those who seek out exclusive and high-end vacation rentals, staying overnight in the farm’s Private Luxury Suite will make your stay in southern Rhode Island comfortable and memorable. The suite is both rustic and luxurious, described as a “little piece of paradise,” allowing up to four (adult) guests to stay in the center of Lavender Waves Farm, with a view of the namesake garden.
The option to add on a multi-course gourmet lavender-inspired meal prepared in-suite by a local chef allows guests of the suite to enjoy local, fresh ingredients in the comfort of their rental. The entire culinary experience lasts 2-3 hours and includes cocktails.
Animals
In total, about 75 animals call Lavender Waves Farm home, including chickens, guinea hens, ducks, geese, white peacocks, alpacas, llamas, a Great Dane livestock guardian dog, and three camels. Dr. Henry Cabrera is proud to own three of the five privately held camels in the state of Rhode Island: one Bactrian and two Dromedaries.
The good-natured animals add to the ambience and charm of the farm, delighting guests with their unique dispositions, and in the case of the camels, their shocking size. The camels, named Humphrey, Jack, and Bingham, respectively, are so large and such a draw that camel rentals and camel rides are being offered off-site. While camel rides may soon be available on-site in the future, Dr. Cabrera currently transports his camels to events of all sizes to interact with guests. He is also open to inquiries about his camels for use in motion pictures.
For those who find themselves in Rhode Island in the summer months and looking for an immersive garden and farm experience that they can’t find elsewhere, look no further than Lavender Waves Farm. It’s no secret that lavender promotes calmness and wellness, but Lavender Waves Farm offers the ultimate opportunity to de-stress and relax. Historic mansions and New England beaches are lovely, but venturing to Dr. Cabrera’s little piece of paradise in South Kingston is well worth the trip.
