Dr. Peter Brett Brings State of the Art Cancer Care to Saipan

Dr. Peter Brett is an expert in cancer care. While he started his career in Northern California, he has spent the last three years providing cancer care to those who live in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. He began this journey in 2019, and in 2020, he built his oncology center on the island of Saipan.
Dr. Peter Brett and his staff work hard to test, diagnose, treat, and care for cancer in all their patients, serving the 50,000 people that live on the island. They also work to educate the residents on prevention and early detection which was not done on the island before his arrival.
Who is Dr. Peter Brett?
Dr. Peter Brett is an oncologist with more than twenty-five years of experience in the field. He first attended Stanford for his undergraduate and medical degrees, then shifted to his residency at Stanford University Hospital of Internal Medicine. He is certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and was considered one of the Bay Area’s best doctors from 2016-2019 by the American Board.
In 2020, Dr. Peter Brett decided to take his business from San Francisco and move it to the in-need island of Saipan. He appreciated the friendly area and tropical climate. There was also an appealing slower way of life on the island, completely different from the chaos of the city. On Saipan, he witnessed a growing need for medical assistance in cancer care.
Before Dr. Peter Brett arrived, those dealing with cancer on the Commonwealth had to seek assistance off the island, which was an extensive and expensive journey. It was isolating and pricey for those in a vulnerable time. Rather than being with family and friends, patients were forced to be by themselves.
Dr. Peter Brett created an oncology center, changing the way of life for these people. Now, they have a quality doctor to visit without spending tons of money or leaving family and friends behind.
What Services Does the Oncology Center Provide?
The Oncology Center is staffed with a full group of professionals. There are nurse practitioners, financial advisors, Oncology RNs, pharmacists, patient navigators, and more. They offer treatments like chemotherapy, targeted cancer treatment, and immunotherapy. If extensive care is needed and the patient must go off-island, the Center will organize the details and ensure everything comes together. They manage everything for these patients.
Education is another thing offered at the Oncology Center. They provide education on everything from healthy lifestyle habits to proper nutrition and other ways to take an active stand against cancer before it emerges. His team noticed many patients with intense, late-stage cancer and took action to help patients keep their diagnosis at bay. The goal is to lower the number of patients who enter the Oncology Center with cancer in later stages, which is the trickiest to address and cure.
Another accomplishment of Dr. Peter Brett is the Cancer and Associated Risks Early Screening, also known as CARES. Dr. Peter Brett opened the free cancer testing center in 2022, another step towards helping residents of the island keep cancer at bay. Residents can access items like mammograms, breast removal surgeries, pap smears, color genetic testing, and oral screenings. It’s the first program of its kind on the island and is an incredible step forward.
Early cancer detection is critical, and Dr. Peter Brett has done everything in his power to make sure the people of Saipan get the education and early detection they need to stay healthy and cancer free.
