Most Anticipated Start-ups of 2022 Gathered in Taiwan, Attracting Top-notch Companies in the Global Supply Chain

Epoch Foundation has selected high-tech driven start-up teams with great market potential among the 308 applications from 37 countries for the 13th batch of the Garage+ Startup Global Program. The quality and potential of the selected teams have attracted keen interest from companies and investors. In the past two weeks, more than 40 Taiwanese heavyweights like TSMC, Wistron, Quanta Computer, Delta Electronics, Pegatron, Cathay Venture and CDIB Capital Group have participated in more than 200 sessions of the C-suite one-on-ones. Through business matchmaking, start-ups can effectively connect with Taiwanese industries in an effective way and jointly seek business opportunities for future collaboration.
Mohan Thanikachalam, the co-founder and CEO of Dynocardia, an American start-up which focuses on non-invasive blood pressure monitoring (cNIBP) technology, commented that the proper arrangement of Startup Global Program is a much more effective method than cold calls. Furthermore, the program presented great opportunities as the teams had direct access to corporate decision-makers. Tommaso Demarie, the CEO of Entropica Labs, an quantum computing start-up, also said that it had been relatively difficult for international companies to establish contacts with Taiwanese companies. But through these meeting sessions, he could sense that Taiwanese companies were particularly interested in quantum computing technology. He also acquired a better understanding of the quantum computing ecosystem of business sectors, which could help him identify potential business partners on both academia and industry side. In addition, Karim Ali, the CEO of Invision AI and a second-time participant of this program, pointed out that through this program, his team had managed to continue discussions with companies which participated in this program two years ago as well as development of new clients. He praised that SGP is a great door opener for start-ups which wish to tap into Asian markets and develop prospect clients.
From 2015 onward, with the support of the National Development Council and Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency, SGP has been recognized widely by startups around the world. Past events have accumulated over 2,000 applications and selected 216 start-ups to come to Taiwan. One third of them have successfully obtained manufacturing or investment agreements and returned to Taiwan to set up branches or offices.
