In today’s fast-evolving economy and dynamic job market, you don’t really need a fancy degree to make something of yourself. You just need curiosity, determination, and the courage to keep going when things don’t seem to go your way.

After all, the internet is filled with examples of people who quit their advanced education and went into doing YouTube or became famous influencers.

On the other hand, the young people who believe that, fail to acknowledge the fact that most of those who quit school and succeeded as professionals already had a solid foundation to work with (their YouTube channel was picking up or their business was gaining traction).

Moreover, even though getting a classic degree (like being a lawyer or a computer scientist) may seem outdated, there are modern world applications for those who graduate. Even more interesting, companies are currently looking for skilled graduates interested in applying their classic knowledge to a tech-oriented world, and they are paying well for their efforts.

So, if you’re currently working hard to get a classic degree but worry you won’t be able to get a job in the end, we listed some of the most interesting jobs in each area.

Law

Becoming a lawyer was once considered the epitome of class and pride. However, today the market is saturated and it’s quite difficult to get well-paying customers or get access to high-profile cases.

Still, due to the quick development of technology and the issues that came with it, lawyers have now a new niche to pique their interest and allow them to make a name for themselves. Cybersecurity threats and attacks paired with user privacy issues are only some of the few problems that require legal assistance.

Still, before you can work for companies like Google or Facebook, you will have to first pass the bar exam. So make sure to study hard and get the best possible results (here is a list of bar prep courses to help you improve your score).

Computer Science

While this is not necessary a classic degree (we didn’t have computers until recently) it still involves a blend of classic hard sciences that require logic, analysis, and experimentation (among others).

However, the job market is extremely diverse for computer science graduates as they can choose to go into data processing and analysis, robotics, business intelligence, software development, mobile app development, web developer, AI/ML, and more.

Business Administration

This type of degree is quite trendy right now as people are more interested in getting their own startups or becoming freelancers. While it’s true you don’t need a degree to start your own work-from-home venture, it is infinitely better to know the ropes (at least theoretically). Moreover, a Business Administration degree is just as useful when looking for a job as many companies need young people who understand the role of technology in the business world.

Finance

Graduates who also have an interest in technology have the chance to get involved in fintech (one of the fastest developing niches in today’s market). Fintech is the mixture of financial services with modern technologies and the result can be seen in products like internet banking, online payments, and even blockchain.

As a starting point, you can consider obtaining an online finance degree, that gives you more flexibility to pursue your interests and skills needed in the evolving digital economy.

In summary

While some media outlets would like to make us believe technology is here to steal our jobs, in reality, it creates new jobs for the people interested to take a different approach. If you take a glance at the job market, you’ll notice a bevy of young professionals who managed to achieve success by using their knowledge, education, and wit.

At the end of the day, today’s graduates have a wonderful chance of making a real contribution to our future!
