Employees are the backbone of every company. They are the ones who make things happen and they need to be happy for a company to succeed.

Many business owners think that it is not a big deal when it comes to company culture. They believe that as long as they offer good pay and benefits, their employees will be happy.

However, this is not always the case. One of the most common reasons employees leave their jobs is that they do not like the company culture.

The State of the Great Resignation in the UK

A new 2022 survey found that 54.5% of employees are willing to resign due to poor company culture. The COVID-19 pandemic might have had some impact on that since 29% of respondents stated that they felt their company’s culture had deteriorated specifically because of the pandemic.

Employees want to work for businesses that have a strong company culture. Positive company culture can make employees feel happy, supported, and motivated. Additionally, a study by Glassdoor found that 77% of job seekers say that positive company culture is essential when considering a job offer. This shows how vital company culture is to employees.

Strong company culture can also help attract and retain top talent. If a business has a good reputation, it will be much easier to attract high-quality employees.

It’s not just about attracting new employees, though. Strong company culture can also help businesses keep their best employees as they want to work for businesses that treat them well and make them feel like part of a team.

How Can Company Culture Be Improved?

One of the best ways to improve company culture is by encouraging open communication. This means creating an environment where employees feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas.

There should be no fear of retribution for speaking up. Employees should feel like they can openly express themselves without judgement which will help create a more collaborative and supportive work environment.

Employees want to feel like they are growing and developing in their careers. Offering training and development opportunities will show employees that you are invested in their success, and many businesses are beginning to abide by that by investing in HR technology, such as UK HRIS software as that can act as a one-stop storage pathway that enables both employees and managers to access everything HR-related to their business.

From that piece of software, employees can give feedback to their managers and vice versa, which will help to enhance the company’s decision-making procedures.

Additionally, the physical environment where employees work can significantly impact their mood and motivation. Ensuring the office is clean, bright, and comfortable will help employees feel happy and supported.

This is evidently important to UK and Ireland employees as 63% declared that access to a physical working environment was absolutely critical to making workplace culture great.

Conclusion

Company culture is essential to employees and can significantly impact your business. Employees want to work for businesses with strong company culture and offer employee development opportunities.

If your business is struggling with company culture, you can improve it by working on creating a positive working environment and offering employees opportunities for growth and development.
