Manoj Tulsani, CEO of Rayna Tours & Travels, was heading the marketing division at Dubai’s Time Machine Group of Companies when he decided to pursue his passion for travel and exploring new cultures and experiences. With both founders in their late 20s, they took one of the biggest risks which led to the revival of their guests’ travel experience. Starting from a small travel outlet in 2006 within Flora Grand Hotel, the concept of arranging tours and activities in Dubai for the hotel guests was off the block – innovative and creative at that time. It wasn’t easy for them to start off in an entirely new industry, but it did give them some advantage. At the same time, they were raw in bringing a ubiquitous experience across the entire travel journey; this included effective planning resources, an awesome booking experience across all channels, and exceptional customer support.
The tough ride and process
While they did have the first-mover advantage, extrinsic market factors impacted their initial growth. For example, a robust business plan or a roadmap to steer the business through the competitive environment was missing. Fund shortage and lack of an experienced team further aggravated their initial struggle. The rapid expansion of opening 15 more travel outlets all over Dubai was the company’s baby steps into the big boy leagues, giving rise to a new set of innovative ideas to acquire customers and retain them through an exceptional support chain. Within three years, they established their status from a travel outlet to a full-fledged Destination Management Company that specializes in safaris, cruises, luxury tours, Dubai tours and Abu Dhabi tours to name a few. This period saw the company making smart moves through some well thought investments and acquisitions like acquiring a desert camp, an array of buses, coaches, luxury vehicles, cars, and cruise inventories to expand their service portfolio horizontally. Moreover, interacting and directly connecting with the customer helped them eliminate the intermediaries in the supply chain, thus, providing a great sense of value and awesome packages keeping the customer experience as the utmost priority for both B2B and B2C sectors.
