company culture

Creating a work culture that suits your ideals is half the fun of starting your own business. However, as you grow and scale, it becomes more difficult.

Strong workplace cultures are a common characteristic of companies with good employee retention and high levels of employee satisfaction. As a result, they know that you must truly invest in them if you want to get the most out of your people.

Employee absenteeism, stress, poor health, and high staff turnover could result from a poor workplace culture. By offering part-time jobs for students, you are improving the productivity of your business and benefiting those you employ. So what do you do to maintain the awesome culture you already have?

  1. Supports employees they need

As well as salary and pension plans, employees are increasingly interested in ‘lifestyle benefits,’ which address their circumstances and promote a healthier work-life balance. Flexitime working, study days and work-from-home options can all fall under this category.

  1. Continual development

Is your company committed to the continuous development of its employees? A company’s investment in an employee’s professional and personal growth should be reflected in its steps to achieve it. By developing mentoring schemes or training days, a culture of continuous development can be promoted.

  1. Host group mealtime

You may find it easy for function-level groups to become isolated in a startup as departments are formed. The marketing department rarely interacts with engineering and only talks with sales; the finance department meets with company executives but no one else.

Regular interaction between teams and good food is key to avoiding this behavior.

  1. Social calendar

Business activity and social interaction should be balanced well for morale to be high. An active calendar of social events outside of the office can create a positive atmosphere at work and promote team bonding.

  1. Open, honest feedback

To create an open culture, employers need to encourage employees at every level to share their ideas, concerns, and suggestions. In addition to monitoring employee satisfaction levels, employers can help alleviate issues as they arise by implementing structured feedback strategies.

  1. Something little extra

Aside from traditional benefits, employees usually appreciate more personalized perks – like free breakfast, early Friday finishes, or charity partnerships that they choose themselves.

  1. Innovative approach

A company’s innovative ways of conducting business are also reflected in how it engages with its staff. In your company’s sector, do you strive for thought leadership? How do employees keep up with the latest trends and advancements in their fields by attending industry events? Do they feel comfortable adapting to new technologies and ideas?

  1. Committed leadership

Employees and managers need to buy in to create a great workplace. Maintaining a great company culture will require clear, honest, and committed leadership. Ensure your leaders are familiar with your organization’s culture and can communicate and uphold it effectively.
