Free Methods to Convert JPG to Word
A JPG is a type of format for an image. You can simply rename your image as a .docx file and voilà, you’ll have converted your JPG file to a Word document.
But this won’t allow you to edit text on it, right? That’s why in this guide, we’ll show you four efficient ways; and not shortcuts, in which you can edit and save your JPG image file as a Word document, i.e. convert JPG to Word. Let’s get started.

Step 1: Open your JPG file and press Command + 1 on Mac, and Ctrl + Alt + Z on Windows to activate a screenshot OCR function.
Step 2: Hold and drag your mouse/screenshot tool over the JPG file and then release your mouse to start an OCR scan.
Step 3: You will see a text editor with extracted image text on it. You can copy the text and paste it into your Word document to save it.
Method 2: How to convert JPG to Word using Microsoft Word
You can also use Microsoft Word to convert a JPG file to a Word document through these steps:
Step 1: Open a blank document in MS Word. Then, go to Insert > Picture and upload your JPG file in MS Word.
Step 2: Next, save your image as a PDF file. To do this, click File on the taskbar menu and select Save as to save your file as a PDF document, for example, on a desktop. This will open your file in Adobe viewing. Close it. We don’t need it.
Step 3: Go to the location where you have saved your file and right-click on it and Open With MS Word.
Step 4: You will see a Window prompt like this:
Go ahead and click OK.
Step 5: This will automatically convert your image to a Word document. You can edit your image text and click Save. That’s how you convert a JPG file into a Word document using MS Word.
Tip: Make sure to save your file as a PDF document before you can convert it to a Word document. You might as well have saved your JPG file as a Word document when you first opened it within MS Word.
Method 3: How to convert JPG to Word using Google Drive
If you didn’t know it, Google Drive is also a good option you can use to convert your JPG file and save it as a Word document online. We’ll use Google Drive to open our image file and convert it to Word using Google Docs; it’s the latter that has an inserted OCR function.
To convert your JPG to Word:
Step 1: Log in to your Google Drive. Once you’re logged in to your Google Drive, upload a JPG file to your account from your computer.
Step 2: Right-click the JPG file where it’s saved and open it with Google Docs. This will start an automatic OCR scan.
Step 3: When the OCR is complete, the JPG file will open alongside some editable text. You can delete the JPG file and then navigate File > Download > Microsoft Word to save the file as a Word .docx file.
Method 4: Convert JPG to Word Online for free
Several free online tools in the internet let you convert JPG file formats to Word documents, for example, Convertio, Easy Screen OCR, Capture2Text, and other useful online tools.
