Health Information Technology (Health IT) encompasses a range of technologies for storing, sharing, and analyzing health information. So it’s time to keep up with progress and turn to a telemedicine software development company. Both telemedicine and telehealth are components of progress in health care.

Although the two concepts seem to be synonymous, there is a subtle difference between them. Telemedicine is considered an earlier term, more focused on clinical applications and the use of telecommunication technologies to provide traditional diagnosis and monitoring. In particular, it refers to remote training and the provision of remote clinical services to patients. Examples of telemedicine include video consultation, digital imaging, remote medical diagnosis, etc. Telehealth refers to a broader range of services and technologies beyond physician-patient interaction. It includes telemedicine as well as educational services, telepharmacy, and other non-clinical services that can be provided at a distance.

Categories of telemedicine

Real-time telemedicine communication software

Real-time communication requires patients and physicians to be in simultaneous contact using a variety of technical means to conduct a clinical visit: webcam, telephone, computer audio system, chat, etc. Real-time telemedicine most closely resembles a “live” doctor’s visit, allowing both parties to assess and discuss the patient’s condition and provide treatment remotely, and connect to a remote specialist or institution for consultation. Some live telemedicine programs may also support mobile medical devices to capture patient health information in lieu of a medical exam.

Telemedicine platforms for data storage and transfer

These relate to the transfer of digital images and videos for diagnosis, such as in radiology or dermatology, or of clinical data between patients and physicians, or between physicians for further consultation. It’s a safe and fast way to share clinical information, allowing for more accurate diagnosis and more effective care, especially in areas where access to quality care is limited, such as rural or remote areas.

Remote patient monitoring

Also called “home telemedicine,” it allows health care providers to monitor patients with a variety of medical devices that can be installed at home to track patients’ vital signs and get more frequent updates on their well-being. Remote monitoring is especially useful for patients with chronic conditions or recovering from serious injury, illness, or surgery, for bedridden patients, and for older patients whose physical condition prevents them from coming to a doctor’s office.

Telemedicine software integration

The key requirement for quality telemedicine and telehealth software systems is their seamless integration with existing EMR (Electronic Health Record) and PM (practice management) systems, proper documentation of telemedicine visits, synchronization of insurance programs, integration with patient portals, medical APIs, revenue cycle management platforms, etc. All of the above are critical to providing healthcare providers with better technology and patients with convenient care. Some telemedicine platforms are built directly to “communicate” with mobile medical devices.

Integration with pharmacy

Through the use of telemedicine software, patients have access to many of the professional services offered by pharmacies and can get advice on managing medication therapy remotely. Pharmacies participating in telehealth programs typically collaborate with other health care providers and provide comprehensive care to their clients. Telepharmacy services can include patient counseling, monitoring drug therapy, obtaining permission to re-prescribe prescription drugs, and using telemedicine to provide training, video conferencing, education, and management among pharmacists.

Data Analysis in the Healthcare Sector

At least 65% of the global health data market. Big data analytics and robotics can process and extract valuable insights from the vast amounts of health information that is collected and stored on various platforms and applications. Healthcare analytics also helps assess practitioner quality and patient spending to maximize efficiency and allows better risk management based on aggregated data (medical data, demographic and socioeconomic profile, comorbidities, etc.).

What are the advantages of using telemedicine software for you

  • More convenient and accessible patient care: real-time consultations, photo-based consultations, including store-and-forward solutions, and mobile health care accessibility.
  • Cost efficiency and savings in healthcare: telemedicine reduces the number of non-urgent visits to emergency departments, eliminates transportation costs for regular check-ups, allows automatic renewal of prescriptions, etc.
  • Improved quality of patient care: storage of medical records, unified patient management, and control system, increased patient involvement, and better access to more specialists.
  • Efficient timekeeping and simplified administrative operations, automated workflows of medical services.

What technologies help develop software for telemedicine

Machine Learning

ML and automation help optimize hospital processes, map diseases and treat infectious diseases, and personalize treatment. Machine learning can also be used to create smart electronic medical records, for imaging and diagnostics (e.g., rapid and accurate MRI-based tumor detection), for drug research and development, for remote patient monitoring, and much more.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence and deep learning can be used to identify and classify images to help improve diagnostic accuracy in disease detection and promote better patient outcomes. AI technology also helps automate the telemedicine process, from scheduling to consultations, exams, diagnosis, and billing, and helps doctors make decisions.

Chatbots/Voice Assistants

Chatbots and virtual medical assistants can perform many functions, from customer service to diagnostic tools or virtual therapists. Speech recognition technology continues to improve, and user interest in voice search is growing. We can create virtual assistants to meet all patient needs for quality and seamless communication with the provider.

RPA

Process automation and robotization allow medical facilities to automate routine administrative tasks, free up physicians’ time, reduce errors and save money. It can be used for appointment scheduling, claims to process, and general workflow automation.

IoMT

IoT combined with telemedicine is creating a new trend, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). It involves the use of a variety of medical wearable devices that collect specific health data, either by asking patients or using sensors and providing real-time care. Its effectiveness depends on a robust software solution.

Highly loaded systems/MIS

Highly loaded systems are fault-tolerant, and with the right architecture, your service can handle numerous requests even during peak loads. We have experience in servicing large healthcare projects and can also help you with medical information system (MIS) development.

Great read! Telemedicine has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare industry. So far our medical system is reactive rather than proactive, but the use of machine learning and AI can help predict and initiate treatments long before a human caregiver can notice. Many Telehealth and remote monitoring software are actively using this technology to push the boundaries of healthcare.
