12 Web Design Tips for a Startup Website
Opportunity abounds in the digital era. However, though there’s plenty of scope for using the internet to push your startup forward, it’s not as if success is automatically guaranteed. To make the most of all that the web can do for your blossoming company, you’ll need to have a website that works for both your startup and your website visitors. And that’s just what you can have, if you follow some smart web design practices.
On this page, you’ll find some of the most effective design tips that’ll ensure your website helps you to find startup success.
In Line With Branding
Branding is integral to a startup’s success. Before you begin designing your website, you should have a concrete plan regarding the colors, icons, tone, taglines, and more of your branding. And these elements shouldn’t just have a presence on your website; they should be the website. The point is to make your brand easily recognizable. When visitors land on your site, they should have no doubts about whose site they are on.
Great on Desktop, Great on Mobile
You’ll already know that mobile accessibility is important. But do you know how important it is? More than 50% of web traffic comes from mobile devices, and that trend is only expected to increase in the coming years. As such, ensuring your website works just as well – if not better-than your desktop website is of paramount importance. A WordPress professional web design company can help design a mobile-friendly website that helps your business to grow.
Easy to Navigate
Your website homepage will help make a positive first impression. But it’s the other pages that’ll relay the most vital information and help to make sales. As such, it’s imperative that your site is easy to navigate. When designing your website, make sure that it is as easy as possible for your visitors to get around.
High Quality Images and Videos
A picture is worth a thousand words. If you’re using low-quality images, then the message being conveyed won’t be as impressive as it could be. Be sure to use unique, quality images from stock image websites. Also, don’t limit yourself to just images. Videos are increasingly popular with web users and can make your website more interesting.
Stellar Copywriting
Web design is about more than the appearance of the website. Content matters too. The quality of your website’s copywriting will influence the level of trust and confidence that your visitors have in your company. It’s often better to hire a copywriter to do the job for you, rather than tackling the task yourself.
Testimonials and Reviews
You’ll know that your goods and services are top tier. But your first-time visitors might need some convincing. An effective way to get them on board is to publish testimonials and reviews from existing customers on your site. They’re an effective alternative to the standard “sales pitch” that most companies rely upon.
Fast Loading Times
Your website could be fantastic. But if it’s taking too long to load, then people won’t stick around long enough to see what you have to offer. Web users are, after all, a pretty impatient bunch! It’ll be best to check that your website loads quickly on all browsers and devices. If it’s more than five seconds per page, then they’ll be more likely to hit the ‘X’ button.
Don’t Overcomplicate It
It’s easy to get carried away with ideas for your website. The problem is that, before you know it, you could end up with a website that has far too much going on. When it comes to your website, it’s important to be hyper-selective about what makes the final cut. As with most things in the startup world (indeed, as with most things in life), it pays to keep things as simple as possible.
Focus on User Experience
Your website doesn’t exist for your benefit. It exists for your customer’s benefit. As such, it’s important to develop the site with a focus on the overall user experience. You can go a long way towards optimizing the user experience by thinking about their needs, values, and what they look for. It’s also recommended to gather user feedback. There’s no need to guess what people want; in many cases, they’ll just tell you.
More Than Sales
Your ultimate goal is to create sales for your startup. But it’s important to think about how you’ll get there. People have grown tired of reading content that is overly sales oriented. Rather, they want to spend time on websites that provide them with valuable, worthwhile content. Ultimately, people respond much better to a website that isn’t solely focused on getting their money. It helps to make the website – and thus the startup – more relatable.
Calls to Action
Not that you have to strip your website of anything sales-oriented. It’s just that you should be wary of overdoing it. Your website should feature some calls to action, such as an invitation to sign up for your newsletter, take advantage of an offer or discount, create an account, or try your service for free. All of these examples are mutually beneficial to both you and your visitors.
Be Ready To Abandon a Bad Idea
Finally, remember that you don’t need to see every idea through to the end just because you started. If you sense that you’re going down the wrong path, then consider starting over. There have been some high-profile cases of companies sticking with inadequate web design that resulted in lost revenue. The sooner the idea is abandoned, the sooner you get to work on doing things correctly.
Final Thoughts
There’s no magic-bullet recipe for designing the perfect website. Every startup’s site will be different, after all. It’s deeply important to think about your business and visitors, and how you can create a website that works for everyone involved. After all, your website will be the public’s first digital interaction with your company. Get it right, and you’ll soon see an increase in interest and sales.

Very good post. I think a good CTA comes a long way… i think the placement of it gets underestimated sometimes. It’s really important to filter down and have one main CTA.
I also think the user experience gets undervalued… everything needs to be looking good but if its missleading the users on your site your’re doing yourself no favor with that.
Thanks for sharing & have a good one
