Why the Worst Time to Start a Business is Actually the Best Time

Many people try to wait until the perfect moment to start a business. A lot of those people never end up making it. Others, however, don’t wait for everything to line up perfectly. Instead, they jump straight in, not because it’s convenient but because they have the drive and motivation.

Since the pandemic began, millions of people have started their own businesses, many of which have found success. Just because the time isn’t perfect, it doesn’t mean you can’t make something happen. In fact, a bad time might actually be the best time. That might sound odd, but there is a lot of truth to it.

Endless Drive

When is the worst time to start a business? In the middle of a pandemic? During a recession? While these times certainly provide obstacles, there is one thing you’ll have plenty of – drive.

If you start a business when you’re up against the odds, the chances are you’ll have a lot of motivation to see it through. You have a lot to prove, after all, and if you make it to the other side, you’ll have a lot to be proud of!

Take Lineway UK as an example. They started their line marking paint supplier business amid the pandemic. Founder Ash Kejriwal started his business in Coventry, UK, knowing the risks but going ahead anyway. Instead of letting the pandemic hinder his success, it pushed him toward making the right decisions, like focusing more on customer care.

More Time to Kill

A pandemic might not seem ideal for start-ups, but if you have more time to spare because of lockdowns or the shutting down of your work, why not spend your time creating a business? If you are at home more, you have the chance to create something worthwhile. Whether you want to start a clothing company or a tech business, the extra time will help you achieve that.

More Talent

Bad times, such as pandemics and recessions, usually result in more people looking for work. Maybe their place of work shut down, or perhaps they need more money. As a result, those who start businesses benefit, as they have even more talent to choose from.

A Change on the Horizon

The worst times usually result in unpleasant circumstances. People are out of jobs, there’s an increase in the cost of living, and social unrest has become the norm. That might make you think you should wait until the unsettled time has passed before starting a business, but the opposite is true.

Change, whether good or bad, means new ideas. It means different ways of working and new technology taking hold. At the beginning of COVID, employees have started working remotely, and many businesses took advantage of that and made it part of their integral work structure. Instead of seeing the worst time as a time to wait, see it as a chance to embrace change and create a business that looks toward the future.
