Marco Pharma’s 35th Year, Anchored by a German Partner Turning 70

Dr. Andreas Marx landed in the United States in 1983 carrying knowledge American medicine had little room for at the time: drainage remedies, homeopathic complexes, the German conviction that a body given the right support heals itself. Marco Pharma International opened for business in 1991, run out of an apartment by Marx alongside Ana Marx and Isaac Conyers III. The company turns 35 this year.

In the small Bavarian town of Zapfendorf, a family-run company called Nestmann Pharma quietly turns 70 the same year. Nestmann plays a central role in this story: it is the supplier the company calls its parent, the source of most of the German formulas that fill the catalog. A May 2026 announcement from the company used the same framing: it called Nestmann a supplier with a 70-year history.

Those early years were not smooth. American practitioners trained in conventional medicine had little frame of reference for drainage remedies or homeopathic complexes, and skepticism ran deep. Trust built slowly, formula by formula, as practitioners tracked patient outcomes over time and came back for more.

A Grandfather’s Recipes, Turned Into a Company

Nestmann’s roots reach back further than either anniversary suggests. According to Nestmann’s own company history, homeopath Arthur Klauder, the great-grandfather of today’s Nestmann family, spent decades in practice developing a complex homeopathic system comprising 127 preparations. Heinrich Nestmann founded Nestmann Pharma GmbH in 1956 to produce those preparations at a larger scale.

The company moved to its current home in Zapfendorf in 1960. Two years later came the first specialty preparations, built from combinations of mostly plant-derived active ingredients. Pharmacist Burghardt Nestmann took over the family business in 1987, and the company introduced its first dietary supplement in 1992.

Sports products followed in 2008, developed alongside nutrition scientists and sports physicians. Florian Nestmann took charge of that division in 2014 and built it into the neprosport brand. Today, Nestmann preparations reach more than 10 countries outside Europe. The company’s GMP and FDA certified facility employs more than 50 people. Three generations of the Nestmann family, starting with founder Heinrich, have led the company since 1956. Arthur Klauder had developed the underlying formula system a generation earlier.

What the Partnership Guarantees

Isaac Conyers IV, Marco Pharma’s director of operations, has traced the company’s own formulas back to that same origin point. “It was actually Mr. Nestmann’s grandfather who started the formulas,” he has said. The recipes circulated through southern Germany for more than a century before reaching American practitioners.

He has pointed to Nestmann’s refusal to touch GMOs or pesticides as the real backbone of the relationship, and to formulas that have gone largely unchanged since Klauder’s era. Conyers has called the exclusive American distributorship one of the business’s clearest advantages.

He credits something closer to biology than marketing for the partnership’s staying power: Nestmann’s continued reliance on “the same biodynamic principles for over 50 years, with proven, consistent results.”

Two Products That Trace Straight to Zapfendorf

The relationship runs deeper than sourcing. NeproTec, a supplement built around separate morning and evening formulations tied to the body’s circadian rhythm, started on the Nestmann side of the partnership. Conyers has said Nestmann’s own team developed the concept, ran it through university-level testing in Germany, and secured an international patent before the product ever reached an American shelf.

MarcoZyme followed a related path. The proteolytic enzyme formula was developed by Bernhard Muschlien, a German naturopath with 50 years in practice. Conyers has said, without full certainty, that the formula’s roots may trace to an earlier product called Woenzymes that the companies once carried together. What is firmly documented is MarcoZyme’s own track record: German Olympic teams and professional sports leagues have relied on it for recovery, a connection Conyers ties back to the Nestmann relationship.

Neither product would exist in its current form without seven decades of German testing, patenting, and refinement behind it. Practitioners who reach for either one are drawing on research that predates the company distributing them by decades.

Thirty-Five Years on This Side of the Atlantic

Marco Pharma has spent its own 35 years building trust the slower way, through practitioner education rather than consumer advertising: reference books, monthly forums, in-person demonstrations at trade shows. Conyers has described the stakes in personal terms. He points to the roughly 15 employees who work an hour from him, and their families. “It’s personal for us,” he has said.

Independence has stayed part of that story too. The company has turned down corporate acquisition offers over the years. The bet is that a family-run distributor can hold standards a larger owner might trade away for margin. Conyers summed up the reasoning in a recent podcast appearance: “Nobody can out-principle you if you’ve held the line long enough.”

Two family companies, an ocean apart, are logging milestones in the same year: a 35th anniversary on one side, a 70th on the other. Every batch Marco Pharma ships to American practitioners carries seven decades of Zapfendorf behind it, whether the practitioner ever thinks to ask where the formula originated or not. That quiet fact connects two anniversary numbers that, on paper, have nothing to do with each other.
