How Smart Home Technology Makes Life Easier For Working Parents

Technology can be lauded for making life so much easier for everybody. It has helped automate and speed up production processes in factories, helped gain access to information about pretty much everything that exists in this world, and the greatest thing of all for us is: life is much easier and more manageable thanks to smart home technology.
Smart home technology has made home automation easier, accessible and affordable for many. You don’t need to have huge flat-screen TVs coming out from under the ground, or automatic doors, or other fancy contraptions they usually flaunt in movies, to call your home smart. There is a whole catalog of products on First Energy electric website that should explain to you otherwise. Having a couple of smart devices or appliances around the house can make your home a smart home.
This tech has no doubt made life very much easier for working parents who tend to leave their kids and homes under the supervision of nannies or a housekeeper, or even alone in some cases. So how does this technology work in their favor? Here are 4 smart home devices and how they help working parents take care of their children from afar.
Voice Assistants
Voice assistants, also known as Smart Speakers are truly a gift to society. There is so much that this mini speaker-looking device can handle. It allows you to place calls, send texts (when synced from your smartphones), and control other smart devices around the house – anything from smart lights to the smart oven.
Now when it comes to working parents, these devices can make it easier to set schedules and control other devices around the house. For instance, setting the yard lights to switch on at 7 p.m. sharp, or the thermostat to turn on at 3 p.m. so the kids can come back to a cozy home from school. You can even leave voice notes or messages for your kids on these devices.
Smart Cameras
The security and safety of your kids is always a concern when you’re a working parent. That’s where smart cameras come in. Many of these devices are wireless, some wired even, but are very easy to set up. They connect to the home Wi-Fi network and the video feed is accessible through its mobile applications on your smartphones and tablets. Our point is, you can watch over your home from your workplace!
And what’s even better is that smart cameras support two-way audio, so you can communicate with your kids while they’re virtually in front of you without having to ring them up. Super convenient right?
Smart Door Locks
Smart door locks, like other smart devices, have their own mobile applications and this device, in particular, allows you to lock, unlock your door wirelessly. It also allows you to keep track of your door activity – so you can get real-time alerts on if and when the door is opened, you can unlock the door from your office that is blocks away to let the kids in when they’re back from school. You can even check the lock status when anybody leaves the house; if it’s unlocked, then you can easily lock it from your phone app.
Video Doorbell
Video doorbells have been there for over a decade now, where there’s an intercom with a screen that shows you who is outside the door. Smart video doorbells however come with a twist. There isn’t exactly an intercom with a screen mounted somewhere on the wall, smart video doorbells’ video feed can be accessed from our smartphones, laptops or tablets instead. And you get the full view of whoever is outside – and we mean a head-to-toe image in pure HD quality and sound support so you can communicate with whoever is outside.
So whether the kids are home or not, get real-time alerts whenever anybody rings the doorbell and keep a complete check on whoever comes and goes from the house while you’re away.
Smart home tech is really quite convenient to have around your home, especially for working parents to make it easier for them to watch over their kids from halfway across the city. They provide parents with assurance and peace of mind that they have access to their homes and their kids while being away.
