Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your chosen field?

Back in 2009, during the Great Recession, I found myself running a boat detailing business. My dad was a boat captain, so boats and the water have always been a part of my life. I loved being on the water, and washing boats seemed like a way better gig than working late nights at a fish market for a tough boss. Plus, as a competitive surfer traveling the world with my surf team, the idea of a 9-to-5 job was suffocating. I craved the freedom to experience beautiful warm climates, amazing waves, and meet incredible people. So, I started my own boat washing business to maintain my lifestyle.

However, by 2011, the recession had deepened, and boat cleaning was one of the first expenses my high-end clients cut. I started losing business rapidly and found myself questioning how these people could still afford such luxurious boats. The answer, I discovered, was real estate. Many of my clients were real estate salespeople or involved in buying, selling, and flipping houses. Determined to figure out how to enjoy the same financial freedom, I immersed myself in learning about real estate. After two years of buying every book and course available, I flipped my first house, a HUD property. This initial success led me to wholesale dozens of houses in a short period of time.

Years later, influenced by Hollywood and online gurus, I believed that true success lay in rehabbing and fixing and flipping houses. Eventually, I found myself millions of dollars in debt, constantly worried about the economy, potential downturns, and glued to my phone. I was babysitting contractors seven days a week, working nearly 18-hour days, and feeling miserable. It honestly felt like adult daycare just keeping track of vendors, getting angry at each other, and dealing with all of their personal issues. I tried property managers, site managers, and general contractors (GCs), but nobody likes to tell you that those positions almost suck up the majority of your profits.

It was during a forced month-long vacation to Costa Rica with my family that I had an epiphany. I surfed every day and successfully joint-ventured a wholesale deal, making $23,000 by simply connecting another investor’s deal with a cash buyer I found, who already owned properties nearby. I never saw the property or the seller or paid a dollar in marketing expenses to get this deal. Another real estate wholesaler who couldn’t sell it literally called me and handed me the deal. It was the easiest and fastest deal I have ever done, and all I had was a half-ass internet connection that would go in and out while the howler monkeys were jumping on the telephone wires in Costa Rica.

This experience was a game-changer, showing me that there was a better, easier way to make money in real estate while living a fulfilling life. This journey inspired me to teach others how to achieve financial freedom through real estate, emphasizing a balanced lifestyle. I wanted to show people that they could enjoy their lives while building a successful business, just as I had learned to do. My ultimate goal is to help others escape the 9-to-5 grind and live what I call the ‘vacation lifestyle.’

What personal or professional achievements are you most proud of?

One of the biggest achievements in my professional career is the day I realized I could book a month-long trip on our yacht to the Caribbean with my family, and my company would not only continue to run but actually perform better and more profitably while I was gone. There are no awards or plaques for this, but I assure you it is the most rewarding moment of my life. This didn’t come without sacrifices and seasons of hard work, but it’s definitely my proudest professional accomplishment.

When it comes to formal accolades, I’ve been featured on over 200 major podcasts, sharing my insights and journey in the real estate world. I was named a top 30 under 30 by Investor Beats, which was a huge honor. Additionally, I’ve received ‘Two Comma Awards’ on the biggest stages in the online education industry for my company, Freedom Moguls LLC/DB 10 Hour Wholesaler. We gross multiple seven figures annually, and earning these awards has opened many doors for me, allowing me to help and consult aspiring online entrepreneurs to build their own seven-figure businesses.

But let’s not forget the surreal moments. Traveling on my yacht with the family, while my business back home is thriving. It’s like a scene from a movie, but it’s real life. I’ve learned that true success isn’t just about making money; it’s about building a system that works for you, so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor without being tied to your desk. These achievements stand out because they represent the freedom and lifestyle I’ve always wanted. They prove that with the right strategies, determination, and a bit of smart work, you can achieve not just financial success but also the freedom to live life on your own terms.”

How do you define success?

For me, success is the ability to live my ‘vacation lifestyle.’ Meaning, live every day like you would on an epic vacation. It means having the freedom to go wherever you want, with whoever you want, and never worrying about the expenses. In essence, I define success as living my ‘vacation lifestyle.’ It’s about having the financial freedom to enjoy life on my own terms, without being tied down by work or financial constraints.

Success isn’t just about accumulating wealth; it’s about achieving a balance that allows me to spend quality time with my family, pursue my passions, and experience new adventures. It’s waking up every day excited about what lies ahead and having the flexibility to explore new places, meet new people, and create lasting memories.

I measure success by the level of freedom and happiness I experience daily. If I can take off on a spontaneous trip, spend uninterrupted time with my loved ones, and feel fulfilled both personally and professionally, then I know I’m successful. It’s about creating a life that aligns with my values and brings me joy, and that’s the true measure of success for me.
